The Gartmore Heritage Society are incredibly proud to launch the new Heritage Room in the Black Bull. It’s a celebration of Gartmore’s rich and dynamic history, with its walls lined from floor to ceil-ing with over 135 pictures, featuring a plethora of colourful stories from our past, and which includes some very strange old newspaper accounts.
After 4 months, the up-cycling is finally complete but this fascinating treasure trove could not have happened without your contributions and without vital support from Dr. Gordon Campbell. When Gordon agreed to help print 'a few' heritage photos he hadn’t anticipated this meant over 130 pictures! It’s been really hard work, but we hope everyone will find this truly unique collection informative, revealing and rewarding.
At least fifty percent of tourism to Scotland is inspired by history and heritage and, as well as bring-ing the local community together, Gartmore's Heritage room will attract a wider audience, re-establishing lost connections, and helping boost business at the Black Bull and the Village Shop. Of course it’s huge thanks to the Heritage Society committee for covering the cost of the expensive printing paper, mount board and ink, and to the many people who donated their old frames - which has saved thousands of pounds. Each and every frame has been lovingly refinished, resized or re-painted, including those hanging in the main bar.
The Heritage Society’s remit (and that of the Black Bull Hub and Pub) is to serve the community, and the new room is for you, our school children and our visitors - so make a point of going to see it, because you'll easily lose an hour in there on stories which are both funny and heart-breaking - and there's some incredible ‘breaking' research news you won’t have heard of.
